Campus Design | Study Project: Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt

Overview

Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt, a public university in the state of Bavaria, Germany, prides itself on providing an open and inviting campus for both students and netizens. The maintenance and oversight of the campus fall under the control of state authorities. As the surroundings of the university are rapidly developing with various facilities, including commercial spaces and an incubation center, the city of Ingolstadt's rich history further enriches the existing social infrastructure.

The project's objective was to reimagine the campus experience for students and netizens, fostering a robust collaboration between the university and the 'Quartier G' development plan of Ingolstadt city. To achieve this, a comprehensive understanding of the diverse types of visitors, traffic patterns, their needs, and associated activities was conducted.

Through meticulous research and analysis, several key recommendations were proposed to enhance the overall campus experience. The focus areas included:

  1. Campus Navigation Improvements: Streamlining the campus layout and signage to ensure ease of navigation and accessibility for all visitors.
  2. Inclusion of Gathering Places and Student Activities: Creating vibrant communal spaces that encourage interaction, collaboration, and a sense of community among students and netizens.
  3. Facility Enhancements: Addressing the lack of food and water availability by incorporating additional amenities and services to cater to the needs of the campus population.
  4. Safety Measures: Implementing safety protocols and measures to promote a secure and welcoming environment for everyone.

By aligning these improvements with the Quartier G plan, the project aimed to strengthen the connection between the university and the surrounding city development, fostering a mutually beneficial relationship.

Through a thorough understanding of visitor needs, thoughtful planning, and innovative design solutions, the project sought to transform Technische Hochschule Ingolstadt into a dynamic and inclusive hub of learning, collaboration, and community engagement.

Overall, the project aimed to create an exceptional campus experience that reflects the university's vision while complementing the dynamic growth of the surrounding urban landscape.
